Jalandhar/Chandigarh, January 20

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab leader and spokesperson Pawan Kumar Tinu has praised the “Gangsters te Vaar” campaign launched by Punjab Police against organised crime, following the successful ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign carried out against drug smugglers.

Addressing a press conference in Jalandhar, Tinu said that this campaign has been launched as per the clear and strict directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, with the objective of completely freeing Punjab from gangsterism and organised crime. On this occasion, AAP leaders Tarandeep Singh Sunny, District Media In-charge Sanjeev Bhagat, Media Coordinator Anmol Khanna and Media Coordinator Naresh Kumar were also present.

He said that the safety of the people of Punjab is the top priority of the AAP government. Anyone who tries to disturb Punjab’s peace and brotherhood will not be spared.

The AAP leader said that in recent years, gangsters tried to disrupt peace in Punjab, but now the Punjab government has resolved to eliminate this very word from the state. He said that just as strict action was taken against drug smugglers under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, thousands of smugglers were sent behind bars and buildings constructed from their illegal earnings were demolished, action against gangsters is now being taken with the same strength and strong willpower.

Sharing further information, he said that special teams have been formed by Punjab Police to keep a close watch on gangsters who are operating gangs from inside jails. In addition, Punjab Police has prepared a strong and comprehensive action plan against gangsters who are running extortion, threats and organised crime from abroad. He said that strict legal action will be taken against anyone who helps gangsters in any manner, whether by providing funding or shelters.

Tinu made it clear that travel agents who are illegally helping gangsters go abroad or trying to protect them from the law will also not be spared. Punjab Police will take strict action against them. He said that Punjab Police is going to break the backbone of gangsterism by using modern technology, intelligence networks and high-tech resources. This is a unique campaign of its kind in the country.

Appealing for public cooperation, he said that the Punjab government has issued a special helpline number 9394693946 to share information against gangsters. The identity of the person providing information on this number will be kept completely confidential. He appealed to the people of Punjab to unite against gangsterism and support the government and the police.

Pawan Tinu said that the Aam Aadmi Party government is fully committed to making Punjab a safe, peaceful and crime-free state. This campaign will continue until the gangster culture is completely eliminated from Punjab.
