No to `One Nation, One Election'

The recommendation of the High Level Committee to hold simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies and the steps proposed to achieve this are retrograde and will usher in a centralized authoritarian political system in the country. There are 18 amendments to the Constitution and other statutes proposed in the report. These will amount to truncating the parliamentary democratic system and the right of the people to elect a government for a five year term.  It will also enhance the powers of the Central government vis-à-vis the states.  For instance, it is proposed to shorten the tenures of state assemblies, whose elections are held after the 18th Lok Sabha elections,

Punjab restored 98 percent of flood-affected water supply schemes: Jimpa

Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa has informed that more than 97 percent of the water supply schemes of the villages affected by floods have been repaired. He said that 369 water supply schemes of south, north and central zone were affected due to flood and 360 schemes have been repaired with the restoration rate being 97.56 percent.

Mann Govt according top priority to supply of clean and potable drinking water to villages of Punjab: Jimpa

Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa said that Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is making stupendous efforts to ensure supply of clean water in those villages, where the ground water was contaminated. Chief Minister had announced to provide all facilities to the people at the doorsteps. In its endeavor to provide safe drinking water to water quality affected villages, the Punjab government and the World Bank launched the Moga project, a comprehensive surface water supply scheme designed to provide clean and safe drinking water to affected villages in the region. It serves as a model for other regions looking to improve their drinking water supply and promote social development. The project has had a significant and transformative impact on the quality of life and livelihoods of residents in the region. By providing access to clean, safe drinking water, the project has reduced the prevalence of waterborne diseases and improved the overall health of the community, added Jimpa.      

1.8 MILLION TON PADDY STRAW TO BE UTILIZED IN CBG PROJECTS PER ANNUM, SAYS AMAN ARORA

In a bid to find a sustainable solution to the problem of stubble burning and supplement the income of farmers of the state, Chief Minister S Bhagwant Mann led Punjab Government has planned to utilize around 1.8 Million Ton (MT) paddy straw in the under implementation 43 Compressed Biogas (CBG) Projects per annum. This was disclosed by Mr Aman Arora, Minister of New and Renewable Energy Sources, while chairing a CBG Developers' Meet at PEDA Complex here on Tuesday.

CREDIT POTENTIAL FOR PRIORITY SECTOR FOR 2023-24 PROJECTED AT ₹2.73 LAKH CRORE: CHEEMA

 

Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema said on Tuesday that the total credit potential for priority sector for 2023-24 is projected at Rs 2.73 lakh crore which represents an overall growth of 5 percent over the projections for 2022-23. Revealing this while addressing the NABARD ‘State Credit Seminar 2023-24’, the Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that out of the aggregate credit plan, the share of Crop Loan is pegged at Rs 1.03 lakh crore (38%), Agriculture Term Loan at Rs 0.52 lakh crore (19%) and MSME at Rs 0.71 lakh crore (26%) and Other Priority Sector (OPS) at Rs 0.47 lakh crore (17%).

PUNJAB ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2022: VALUABLES WORTH Rs 23.8 CRORES SEIZED IN PUNJAB AFTER ENFORCEMENT OF CODE: CEO PUNJAB

After Model Code of Conduct came into force in the state for Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections, various enforcement teams have seized valuables worth Rs 23.8 crore in violation of code besides confiscating unaccounted cash till January 12, 2022. Giving details in this regard on Thursday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Punjab Dr S Karuna Raju said that the surveillance teams have seized 79766.512 litres of liquor worth Rs 24 lakh. Similarly, the enforcement wings have also recovered psychotropic substances amounting to Rs 23.366 crore besides confiscating unaccounted cash of Rs 4 lakhs, he added.

Soni hands over appointment letters to 190 Medical Officers

To further strengthen health care services in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Om Prakash Soni here on Tuesday handed over appointment letters to 190 Medical Officers in a function held here at Punjab Bhawan. Punjab Assembly Elections 2022: Webcasting facilities at all 24689 polling stations in Punjab

To prevent any kind of alleged poll-related model code of conduct violations during the upcoming Punjab Assembly Elections 2022, the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, on the directions of Election Commission of India, will arrange webcasting in all the 24689 polling stations in the state. "This is for the first time that 100% webcasting will be done at all the polling stations in Punjab," said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Punjab Dr S Karuna Raju on Tuesday.

Dr. Verka explores possibility of tariff reduction in Power Purchase Agreements

New and Renewable Energy Minister Dr. Raj Kumar Verka has explored the possibility of tariff reduction in the existing Power Purchase Agreements through mutual agreement with solar and biomass power project developers in the state. In the meeting with solar and biomass power project developers at Punjab Bhawan today he informed the project developers that as the interstate and corporate taxes have reduced. Close on the heels of the two Pakistan-ISI sponsored terror modules busted in Gurdaspur this week, Punjab Police on Thursday recovered another chunk of four hand grenades and one tiffin bomb concealed in a sack recovered from village Salempur Araiyan of the border district. Sharing details, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota said that keeping in view of the recent recoveries of RDX, hand grenades and pistols from the border district, strong static and shifting Nakas have been laid in entire district by all SHOs in the supervision of Gazetted Officers.
