Talk on Contemporary Relevance of History Organised at DAV College

The History Association of the Department of History at DAV College, Sector-10 organised an insightful academic talk on the theme “Contemporary Relevance of History” on 25 February 2026. The talk was delivered by Dr. Jasbir Singh, Chairperson, Department of History, Panjab University, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The event was presided over by the Principal of the college, Dr. Mona Narang, who welcomed the distinguished speaker.The formal welcome address was delivered by Prof. Anu Jain, Head of the Department of History, who highlighted the importance of engaging students with contemporary historical studies.

In his address, Dr. Jasbir Singh elaborated on the enduring relevance of history in today’s world. He discussed the nature and variety of historical sources, methods of analysing them, and the evolving scope of the discipline. Drawing examples from Punjabi literature, he demonstrated how historical interpretation shapes memory and identity. He also addressed the pressing issue of misinformation in the digital age.

The programme also included the felicitation of the winners of the Intra-College Caricature Competition organised by the History Association on 24 February 2026. The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where students and faculty members actively participated and sought clarifications on various aspects of historical research and public engagement. The talk witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members of the History Department, teachers from other departments, alumni, and students from diverse academic backgrounds, making it a vibrant and enriching occasion.
