DAV College Conducts Insightful Session on Wildlife Forensics and Emerging Career Paths

The expert lecture on Wildlife Forensics ‘A Tool for Conservation And Emerging Career Opportunities’’ was organized by ZSD Deptt of Zoology. The talk was given by Dr Siddharatha Sharma an alumnus DAV College Sec 10 Chandigarh of BSc 2010 batch.

He is working as Mission Facilitator at Directorate of Environment and Climate Change (DECC), Deptt Environment and Climate Change, Govt of Punjab. He talked about strengthening wildlife forensic science as a crucial tool for conservation, law enforcement and academic growth.

The speaker discussed the critical role of wildlife forensics in combating illegal wildlife trade, driven by rising rates of animal trafficking and poaching. He emphasised on building capacity through certificate courses, workshops and field base training.

A total of 60 students from MSc and BSc with teachers of the zoology department attended the lecture and gained information on Wildlife Forensic Science. The lecture successfully highlighted that wildlife forensics is essential to transition from suspicion to conviction in wildlife crime cases. By adopting modern molecular techniques and ensuring proper legal protocols, it is possible to protect biodiversity and stop the illegal trade that threatens ecosystem stability.
