Chandigarh, 7 November 2025 :
In a resplendent celebration of culture and consciousness, DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, organized a Cultural Extravaganza titled “Umeed – United Movement to Educate for Eradication of Drugs” under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Mona Narang and the visionary guidance of Dr. Sumita Bakshi (DSW), Dr. Purnima Sehgal (Addl. DSW), and Dr. Manminder Singh Anand (Deputy DSW), the event transcended the boundaries of entertainment to emerge as a clarion call for social awakening.
The event carried a profound social message — a war against drug abuse, where art rises above addiction, inspiring the youth to channel their energy towards creative and constructive pursuits. The Principal remarked that “Umeed” stands not merely as a symbol of hope, but as a collective awakening — a unison of hearts and minds rising against the scourge of addiction, nurturing awareness, responsibility, and transformation through the profound language of art, music, and performance.
The event unfolded as a kaleidoscope of India’s cultural splendour. The audience swayed to the graceful rhythm of Himachali Naati by Himkala, rejoiced in the rustic energy of Haryanvi dance, and were spellbound by the Punjabi folk performances Jhoomer and Gidha each echoing the soul of regional pride and unity in diversity. A captivating presentation on the cultural traditions of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana enlightened students on the profound unity in diversity that defines the nation’s ethos.
Soulful musical renditions like Kali by Saptak, captivating performance by Toufiq “ Qawali ” and comic brilliance in mimicry by the Aaghaaz Club infused the gathering with energy, joy, and reflection — leaving hearts stirred and spirits elevated. The event stood as a testament to the transformative power of culture in shaping a drug-free and progressive youth community.
Umeed was not merely an event; it was an awakening of the spirit, where culture became a conduit for conscience and creativity a weapon against darkness. It reaffirmed that the real battle against drugs is fought not only in policies but in hearts — through awareness, empathy, and education.
The magnificent event was envisioned and orchestrated by the Students’ Council 2025–26 of DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh — a vibrant embodiment of youthful dynamism and purpose. With their inspired efforts, they upheld the institution’s timeless mission to educate the mind, enlighten the spirit, and empower the youth to emerge as torchbearers of social transformation.
