Women’s Kho Kho Championship organised by Punjab Kho Kho Association in Patiala, Muktsar team emerged winner

The Women's Kho Kho Championship organized by the Punjab Kho Kho Association as a part of the Khelo India Dus ka Dum event for women's sports, was successfully concluded on 11th March 2023 at Polo Ground, Patiala.
The event, held on the occasion of International Women's Day, saw some of the best women athletes from across the state compete for the honors.

 

The tournament was a major success, with a large number of spectators turning up to cheer for the players. The tournament saw some intense matches with the players displaying great sportsmanship and competitive spirit. The teams put up a great show of agility, speed, and coordination to make the game entertaining and exciting.

 

The Closing Ceremony of the Women's Kho Kho Championship was graced by the chief guest Ms. Sangeeta Joshi, Deputy Director, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. Ms. Sangeeta, herself an erstwhile National level Kho-Kho Player, was impressed with the skills displayed by the players and congratulated them on their performance.

 

The Butter Sarih Muktsar team emerged as the winner of the tournament, followed by the Ghanour Patiala team in the second position and Physical college Patiala and Ghanouri Kalan, Sangrur jointly in the third position . The winners were felicitated with trophies and certificates by the organizers and the chief guest. The event was a significant step towards promoting women's sports and empowering women in sports.

Sh Upkar Singh, General secretary of Punjab Kho Kho association, who was present at the event, said, "The Women's Kho Kho Championship was a great success, and we are glad that we could be a part of the Khelo India Dus ka Dum event. It is essential to promote sports among women, and events like these are a great way to encourage women to take up sports and pursue their dreams."

Sh Ashok Kumar, President, Punjab Kho Kho Association, while addressing the players said, “Punjab’s women Kho Kho team team is one of the best teams in India. Such events boost motivation of players to give their best.”

Gurbir Kaur who has also been chosen for Asian Championship was declared the best player of the tournament.

The Women's Kho Kho Championship in Patiala was a significant step towards promoting gender equality in sports and inspiring more women to take up sports. The organizers hope that such events will continue to promote sports among women and inspire them to pursue their passion.

The Khelo India Dus ka Dum event is a major initiative aimed at promoting sports among women in India. The tournament will see participation of 15,000 athletes in 10 sports across 50 cities located in 26 states of India from March 10 to 31. The Government of India had sanctioned a total of Rs 1 crore for this event.
