Subhendu Adhikari resigns from both ministries in Bengal cabinet

November 27, 2020 07:01 PM

Kolkata November 27, 2020 || Generating more doubts and speculations about his future plans besides setting off some sort of a political earthquake in West Bengal, state Transport and Irrigation minister Subhendu Adhikari resigned from both the ministries this afternoon and sent his letter in this regard to Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and an e-mail to Governor Jagdeep Dhankar .

Sending yet another shockwave to the political circles in the state in less than 24 hours after quitting the Chairmanship of public sector Hooghly River Bridge Commissionarate (HRBC) yesterday, Subhendu Adhikari also gave up his entire 'Z plus' government security cover along with his Pilot and tale cars amply proving that he was no longer interested in enjoying any government facility as a cabinet minister.

However interestingly he did not resign as a TMC MLA from  the state Assembly.

In a sudden development  taking almost everybody off guard, Adhikari first sent his formal resignation letter through a courier to  the South Kolkata residence of Chief minister, since state secretariat Nabanna was closed today because of weekly sanitisation, wherein he thanked her for givinig him 'the opportunity to serve the people of West Bengal for long',

Simultaneously, the copy of the same letter was sent through e- mail to Governor Dhankar informing him about his decision. The Governor acknowledged the receipt of his resignation letter. Soon he  tweeted 'Ministers are appointed by the Governor under Article 164 of the Constitution on the advice of the Chief Minister. Mr. Subhendu Adhikari resignation as minister @MamataOfficial has been forwarded to me for information. There will be adherence to due constitutional process.'.

Though there was no formal comment so far either from Chief minister Mamata Banerjee or from any of his senior cabinet colleague about the resignation of Subhendu Adhikari, senior TMC leader and party Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy, who recently held two rounds of talks with the Transport minister, maintained that Adhikari  did not quit as a party MLA and might return to the cabinet soon after all his alleged grievances were addressed by the party supremo.
