Prayagraj, June 28 || Sweet are the uses of adversity for Mukesh, son of a labourer who brought laurels to his family by surpassing all odds to score 93.5 pc marks and secured 4th rank in UP Board High School examination. Mukesh’s father Ram Lal may not be financially strong but he put in his “best efforts” for his son’s education. And Mukesh did not disappoint his father and made his family proud. “On many occasions, it used to be difficult to meet the expenses of books and tutorials, but somehow my father managed. Despite hardships, it was pursuit of knowledge which kept me going,” says Mukesh, a student of Ma Ramdeyi Inter College, Daulatpur Shewai in Prayagraj who aspires to qualify NDA in the future and become an Army officer. He plans to start preparing for the NDA right from the beginning.

In a free-wheeling chat with Hindusthan Samachar, he said, “I have been a victim of adversity - family's poor financial condition...But I learnt that there was no place in society for people who complain. I don't believe in destiny. I believe that each one is responsible for own destiny. Life will always be difficult for those who are looking for excuses. We have to break free from adversity and focus on the bigger goal -- what we want to achieve in life. You have to be patient, learn from your mistakes and run towards your goal without resting”.

Speaking on his son’s results, Ram Lal said, "Hum gareeb the, nahi padh paye. But mera beta mera sar uncha kar diya (We were poor so couldn’t study. But my son has made me proud). We are financially very poor, but still I have always put best efforts for the education of my son. We all are extremely happy."

While commenting on Mukesh’s success, principal Ajay Singh Yadav said, “These stories of grit and determination can be inspiration for us. He overcame crushing poverty to ace his exams. Perhaps you too can find inspiration from this determined, hard-working student to work towards your own goals–may be academic, sports or creative.”
