Coach Johny Bhatia Leads Mohali to Victory at 45th Senior Punjab State Swimming Championship

Student Jujhar Singh Breaks 15-Year-Old Records in 400m and 1500m Freestyle

Mohali, August 20, 2024: The District Sports Office, Mohali Day Scholar Wing Swimmers and Punjab State Institute of Sports' Boarding Swimmers who trained under Coach Johny Bhatia helped Mohali district secure the overall championship at the 45th Punjab State Senior Swimming Championship held in Mohali on August 17 and 18. The victory is attributed to the extraordinary efforts of Coach Johnny Bhatia, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chief guest Dr. S.P. Anandh Kumar, Special Secretary, Sports cum Director, Sports and Youth Services, Punjab, for the unwavering support provided by the Punjab Government’s sports department.

Coach Johnny emphasized that this success would not have been possible without the backing of the sports authorities and the Punjab Swimming Association, which organized the event. A standout moment came from Jujhar Singh, one of Coach Johnny’s students, who shattered 15-year-old records in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle events.

Student Jujhar set a new record in the 400m freestyle with a time of 4 minutes 32.02 seconds, followed by another record-breaking performance in the 800m freestyle at 9 minutes 28.32 seconds, and a remarkable 18 minutes 11.60 seconds in the 1500m freestyle.

This triumph solidifies Coach Johnny’s role as a pivotal figure in the development of swimming talent in Punjab, paving the way for future successes in the sport.
