Thousands pay their last respects to Pele in Brazil

Thousands of people gathered in the Brazilian city of Santos to bid farewell to football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele, who died at 82 on Thursday from colon cancer.His wake was being held at the Urbano Caldira Stadium, the home field of Pele's former team Santos, allowing fans to pay their last respects. Among those who attended were FIFA president Gianni Infantino, and the chief of South America's CONMEBOL football confederation, Alejandro Dominguez.

The kabaddi championship was held in Mumbai.A clip featuring Aishwarya, Aaradhya and Ranveer indulging in a banter is doing the rounds. Only Italy in 1938 and Brazil in 1962 have clinched back-to-back titles.France is the sixth nation to reach successive World Cup finals, the others being Italy (1934, 1938), Brazil (twice: 1958, 1962 and 1994, 1998, 2002), the Netherlands (1974, 1978), West Germany (1982, 1986, 1990) and Argentina (1986, 1990).Should France win, Didier Deschamps - who was a player when France won their first title in 1998 - will join Italy's Vittorio Pozzo as the only coach to win two World Cups in a row.

S. Jaishankar states latest developments in foreign policy amidst Parliament

 External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday briefed Parliament on the latest developments with respect to India's foreign policy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign travels, and visits to India by foreign dignitaries.Addressing the Rajya Sabha, he also spoke on India's plans as President of G20 and the recent Bali Summit.Jaishankar told the house that President Droupadi Murmu's first overseas visit in office was to the UK to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.He also said that India will host the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas to honour the contributions of Indians overseas from January 10 to 13, 2023.Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has agreed to be the chief guest for the 2023 Republic Day, Jaishankar said.Jaishankar also informed the Rajya Sabha about Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's presence at the opening ceremony of FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar and Modi's address during the SCO Summit in Samarkand.
