Bankura/Kolkata, 23 November || Chief minister Mamata Banerjee joined several other political leaders across the country in expressing her deep grief at the passing away of former and three time Assam Chief minister Tarun Gogoi in Guwahati this evening.
In a condolence message from Bankura where she has gone on a three day official visit, the Chief minister tweeted 'Saddened to hear about the passing away of veteran leader and former Chief Minister of Assam for 3 terms, Tarun Gogoi Ji. My deepest condolences to his family, followers and well-wishers'.The 84 year old former Chief minister of Assam and a senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi was admitted to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital with several serious ailments on 2 November. He was put on ventilation after his condition deteriorated a couple of days ago. Earlier in August he tested Covid positive and was in the same hospital for over two months before being released in October.
As the news of his death spread this evening, hundreds of Congress workers in Assam and his followers rushed to the hospital to pay their last respect to their leader who was elected the Chief minister of Assam for the first time in 2001.
